Whose eyes am I behind?

BBC Sherlock S02E03 The Raichenbach Fall - thoughts, opinion, obsession…

Molly Hooper - every expression, every dialogue, every emotion in her screen time is perfection. She’s like icing in a cake, a pendant in a necklace, a chorus in a song. If Watson served as Sherlock’s transparent glass so the latter can witness our reality from his alternate universe, Molly became the rift, Sherlock’s transcendental portal to the complexities of being human. “Oh, I don’t count.” is the Sherlockian version of  Whoniverse’s perception filter aka ‘corner of the eye’, and Molly is martyr Martha Jones with longer patience, wider understanding and acceptance. And unlike Martha, she only used her escape pod to hide from the painful needles around him, the pod remained attached to Sherlock’s ship so she could be there when he needs her.

John Watson - fuck you, he won a BAFTA. And he deserves another one, you’ll know why from the very first minute of the episode. I’m aware of the spoilers, that Sherlock won’t actually die from the fall, judging by the last conversation with Molly, and Gatiss and Moffat confirming the 3rd series (but no, I’m not expecting him to come back in a comical camouflage with an antique chair, if you know what I mean), yet I literally sobbed like a baby watching John in despair. Forget about Holmes, we know he’s fine, but John, he is heartbroken, and you can see that from every single movement of each muscle from his face and it’s unbearable to look at.

Jim Moriarty - stunningly creepy and adorably terrifying. The pairing of the adverbs to the adjectives don’t even fit in a normal scale and I never thought I’ll use them together, but I couldn’t find any better words to express the brilliance of Moriarty’s versatile character. Now I completely understand why they casted Andrew Scott no matter how odd choice it will appear. C’mon, he pulled off an extremely horrifying figure from a very limited villainous potential source; the height, the built, huge eyes that compliment the guy-next-door face, and the soft voice. Oh, and that breathtaking royalty (literally) image when he was caught, i cant— it’s marvellous.

Sherlock Holmes - he’s brilliant in every episode that it becomes mundane for him to be that good everytime. I’ll write longer if he will ever suck.

Mycroft Holmes - is it even normal to be strongly attracted to this character? I think Mark Gatiss’ portrayal of  ‘the other Holmes’ is peculiar, classy and superb. I adore every single bit of his accent, his voice, posture, eyebrows, even the umbrella he use to carry around is sexy. And his name can literally open the gates, how ‘bout that Doctor’s screwdriver? Well this is the first time I talked about Mycroft so obviously, this isn’t just about the fall. But he seriously needs to make up for his mistakes over Sherlock, which means we need more of him in S3.

Greg Lestrade - he’s my definition of entertainment. I’m having too much enjoyment everytime his face pops up on the screen (not to mention his feet on his table when Sgt. Donovan came in). A Sherlock episode will never be complete without him (get that The Blind Banker?) and will always be great if he’s not in his usual suit (Hounds episode, oh and that sunglasses, damn).  But in The Fall, I feel bad for him, they all went through very tough situations but I feel bad specially for him, that feeling of doing your duties against what you believe in and even worse, against someone you consider as friend, that’s something I don’t really want to get into in real life. Nevertheless, having Lestrade is a must in Sherlock.

Writing, Directing, Score - will make this as short as possible: writing - fine, not as good as the first two but the actors did their parts beautifully so it’s fine, it’s compensated; directing - if I’m not aware that the director of this episode is different from the first two, I won’t notice. I love the scenes of Andrew Scott in the beginning, the focus, the camera turns, the phone matrix, the slomo of spilling coffee - I honestly don’t know if those are director’s or cinematographer’s works but either way, it’s stunning; score - it’s noticeably different from previous episodes, I’m not sure if I like the idea of using different variety of music apart from their usual theme. It’s fine, I think.

Oh, I don’t count.
